Selçuk Fergökçe was born in Ceyhan in 1965. He graduated from the Department of Painting at Mimar Sinan University’s Faculty of Fine Arts. Having nurtured his talents in the fields of engraving, silk-screening, and lithography, Fergökçe has been an educator for more than 25 years. He has given art classes in a variety of departments in Mimar Sinan University, Istanbul Technical University and Boğaziçi University, and currently works at Istanbul Aydın University.
The artist continues working on his main theme titled “The Forty Year Lie” from which he branches out to different series and poses political inquiries. In his portrait series featured at Art50 titled “Patches” the artist probes the connection between “faces, eyes, shadows, words . . .” in a sociological, psychological, and philosophical context. The layers that Fergökçe uses in his paintings serve both to make reference to existing political layers and strengthen the aesthetic impact of his works.
Over the course of his career the artist has participated in many group exhibitions and fairs and is preparing to open his eleventh solo exhibition.
