Begüm Mütevellioğlu was born in 1983 in Düzce. She completed her undergraduate degree in Painting at Marmara University Faculty of Education and Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University Faculty of Fine Arts Painting Department. While continuing her master studies in Painting at the same faculty in MSFAU, she went to Universidad Complutense de Madrid in Madrid on a student exchange program. She was awarded in 2014, Ders Belgeliği Painting Competition, third degree in Sabancı Painting Art Prize in 2011 and İpek-Ahmet Merey Painting and Sculpture Achievement Award in 2008, in addition to joining several group exhibitions, she has had two solo exhibitions. In 2016, her work has been included in the book “İstanbul Codex-Contemporary Artists from Turkey” as part of Imago Mundi – Luciano Benetton Collection. By 2017, continues her work as a research associate at MSFAU Faculty of Fine Arts Painting Department. The artist lives and works in İstanbul.
She says about her own art the following: “Other than being a four-walled space, a house or a room for me is a special venue where windows open to strange views, memories, dreams and my thoughts. It is a place that I construct upon the idea of “home making”, where the individual hides himself, and at the same time it becomes an open space which gives clues about the identity of its resident.”
